While all of these exams are extremely difficult to clear, they are known for their rigorous process of selecting the students based on merit and cut offs. The following are listed as the top 10 medical entrance exams in India.
1. NEET
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, popularly known as the NEET exam, is one of the toughest exams to clear in India. Previously known as All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT), it has been changed to NEET in the current scenario. Providing access to MBBS and BDS courses, the National Testing Agency is responsible for conducting the exam. It facilitates 70,000 medical seats in the country. Being one of the most difficult examinations, it is held in offline mode. The exam is conducted once a year and the questions consist of MCQs.

2. AIIMS
The All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is the second on the list of the most challenging medical entrance exams in India. Being a unique medical exam, it is held throughout the country. The entrance offers 12000 seats to eligible candidates. In the meantime, three lakh candidates register for the entrance exam, and only a handful make it. The AIIMS exam is conducted in online mode. The questions are framed as MCQs.
3. JIPMER
The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, also known as JIPMER is one the premium institutes for medical sciences. Falling under the direct administrative control of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), it can be termed as an Institute of National Importance. Almost 2 lakh students enrolled for the exam. Including two campuses, one in Pondicherry and the other in Karaikal, JIPMER offers 200 seats.
4. AFMC Medical Examination
The Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) is known as a Centre of Excellence institute. It is also one of the most challenging medical institutes and provides a tough entrance exam. The AFMC Medical Examination offers courses in MBBS, Nursing, Postgraduate, Super Speciality, PG Diploma and Paramedical. With a total of 150 seats, the students clearing the exam will be able to join the Army, Navy, or Air Force.
5. CMC Vellore MBBS Exam
The Christian Medical College, Vellore offers an MBBS course. This is based on NEET scores. Being one of the most prestigious medical institutes that is known for their excellent residency and interns, CMC Vellore has the best medical institute. It is ranked second among the medical colleges in India. After clearing their entrance examinations, candidates will be selected through counselling.
6. AIPVT
The All India Pre Veterinary Test (AIPVT) provides courses in B.V.SC and A.H programs. Held by the Veterinary Council of India (VCI), the exam is one of the most reputed entrance examinations in medicine. The exam is held in offline mode. The questions are set through MCQs. Candidates must fulfil the criteria of 15% All India Quota after clearing NEET to avail of the seats. Post this, the candidates will be shortlisted based on counselling.
7. AMU MBBS Examination
The Aligarh Muslim University MBBS Examination is conducted by Aligarh Muslim University. The courses provided include MBBS and BDS. For availing seats, the NEET scores will be considered. Post this, a medical fitness test will also be taken. Only after passing the two criteria, the students can take the medical course.
8. BHU MBBS Admission
The Banaras Hindu University also conducts medical entrance examinations, known as MBBS Admission. Here too, the students have to register through their NEET scores on the university website. Post this, their seat allotment or merit list will be obtained. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will hold the counselling and admission.
9. BHU Nursing Examination
The Banaras Hindu University also conducts the Nursing entrance exam. It is a National Level entrance exam for B.Sc. Nursing or B.Pharm. This examination, too, is held in offline mode. The questions are designed through MCQs. This examination provides 60 seats for Nursing. The selection is done through counselling.

10. Manipal Academy of Higher Education MBBS
The Manipal Academy of Higher Education also provides MBBS programs. These are offered at KMC Manipal and KMC Mangalore. These courses are validated by the General Medical Council of Great Britain along with the Malaysian Medical Council. This exam also requires candidates to pass the NEET exam, post which the scores will be analysed through the merit list. A centralised common counselling designed by DGCS finalises the candidates.
