Diwali is one of the most famous Hindu festivals. In India, it is celebrated with great pomp and show. Diwali, the festival of lights, is waited for a long time. People plan to buy things during Diwali as it is considered auspicious. Many who live away from home go to meet their families and friends. For all these reasons, Diwali is special to one and all. No one can deny the importance of Diwali and the savouries it brings. Many dishes are prepared to treat the family and guests. It is celebrated for 5 days in October or November, and various sweets and other dishes are served daily. Many of these recipes are becoming obsolete, with the younger generations buying readymade things. We decided to have all of them in writing for future reference and young people if they like to cook. Let’s get going with the delicacies for Diwali.

1. Shakkarpara 

It is made from flour. Primarily, it is deep fried and then mixed with sugar or salt, as per one’s taste. It is popular in the Uttar Pradesh area and is liked by people from the U.K., the USA, Canada, Australia, and more. 

2. Recipe 

1.1  Make dough from all-purpose flour and mix a spoon of semolina. 

1.2 Cut them into small pieces, diamond-shaped or small cubes. 

1.3 Deep fry them on low flame to ensure they cook properly inside.

1.4 Put them into a sugary liquid called chashni. Take them out after a few minutes.

  1. Besan Laddo

As the name suggests, these are made from gram flour. Mixed with ghee, sugar, and cardamom, it is loved by all. These are also used as “Prasad” in many temples. The recipe is quite simple. Just roast and mix all the ingredients on a slow flame until it turns light brown. Then, simply make balls from this mixture.

3. Bhajni Chakli

These are round, spiral-shaped spicy snacks made of gram flour and moon dal. The shape is almost like jalebi, but the taste is totally different. It is a popular snack in the Maharashtra region.

The good news is that a chakli maker does half of the work. You just need to make the dough using rice flour and gram flour with spics. Deep fry them until they are cooked well. Relish with tea. 

4. Chiwda 

Made with flattened rice flakes, chiwda is usually combined with tea. It can be used as an evening snack or to serve guests on Diwali. Things like fried poha, peanuts, namkeen curry leaves, etc., are mixed to make this savoury snack. 

5. Samosa

The crispy fried triangles served with tamarin or mint sauce are a Yes for everyone. People in India love to try different foods, and samosa is undoubtedly on the list.

Ingredients Required – All-purpose flour, cummin seeds, carom seeds, black mustard, potatoes, mint, peas, green chilli, oil and other basic Indian spices.

Make a dough using flour and add cummin and carrom seeds. For stuffing, mix boiled potatoes with peas, green chilly, green coriander, salt, chilli etc.

Roll the dough balls using a rolling pan and cut from the diameter. Add the stuffing and wrap it in tiny triangles. 

Deep fry them until they turn brownish. Enjoy!

6. Gajar ka Halwa

Who doesn’t know the famous winter delicacy? Gajar ka halwa is eaten through the chilly season and is a part of the Diwali season. Serve it steaming hot to win the hearts of your guests and family on Diwali. To prepare it, you need to grate the carrots first. Then boil it with milk, sugar and other dry fruits. Wait until the milk almost evaporates. Serve hot with dry fruit seasoning. 

7. Paneer Tikka Kebabs

Hindus learnt about kebabs from the Mughals, and since then, we have turned and tossed them into many flavours. Vegetarians specifically love Paneer Tikka, but even others don’t mind having a plate or two. Paneer (cottage cheese) is grilled with other veggies like tomato, capsicum and onion. Give it any flavour you like, like tangy, spicy or plain. Simply cut all these vegetables and paneer into equal sizes and grill them on a barbeque or microwave. 

8. Kheer

The rice pudding of India is a part of all festivities and celebrations. People make varied kheers all over India. Some of them are mixed with saffron to give it a yellowish colour, and some like it colourless, i.e. white. Boil rice with milk and sugar, and add as many dry fruits as you want. It is as simple and yet lip-smackingly delicious. 

9. Barfi

The fudge-like sweets from India are called bari or burfi. It can be made in several flavours, such as cashew, almonds, pistachio, or walnut. Depending on your taste and availability, you may choose any dry fruit. Mix condensed milk with sugar, ghee, and dry fruits and heat it until it becomes thick and solid, like a fudge. Once it cools down, you may cut it into any shape.

10. Dal Pakora

Moong Dal Pakora served with green chutney, can be your best pick for this list of Diwali food recipes. People of all ages love hot pakoras in winter. Simply soak the lentils overnight to let them ferment. Grind them and mix them with salt, green chilli, coriander, and other spices. Deep fry them in a pan and serve them with mint sauce.
