The application window for the 21st edition of the Central Teachers Eligibility Test will open soon and the exam dates will be declared by the Central Board of Secondary Education on the CTET official website. The candidates who intend to apply for the vacancies available in the central government school for teachers of classes 1 to 9 may now start preparing for the exams according to the pattern of the exam specified. This article brings you all the details about the exam pattern of CTET 2025.
CTET 2025 Exam
The responsibility of conducting CTET was entrusted to CBSE by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The test is conducted twice a year to determine the eligibility of the candidates appearing for the exam to be recruited for the position of primary or secondary teachers in central-operated government schools. The test is taken by more than 14 lakh candidates every year and is conducted in two shifts. Paper one of the test would be conducted for candidates intending to be recruited as teachers of classes 1 to 5 and paper 2 of the test would be conducted for candidates who wish to be recruited as teachers of classes 5 to 8. If the candidates intend to teach classes 1 to 8 then they must appear for both papers.
CTET Exam Pattern 2025

Both the papers to be conducted for CTET will have similar patterns and the medium of questioning will be both English and Hindi providing the candidates interested a choice of answering the questions in whatever language they are comfortable with. Both papers will consist of 150 multiple-choice questions of one mark each. The papes will be divided into different sections which will be based on different concepts the candidates must have an understanding of in order to qualify for recruitment.

CTET Exam Pattern Paper 1 (Class 1 to 5)
Paper 1 for CTET 2025 will be divided into 5 sections each meant to test the knowledge of the candidate in subjects that they must know in order to be eligible for teaching in the government schools.
The first section of the paper will be based on Child Development and Pedagogy having 30 questions each carrying one mark. This section will test the knowledge of the candidate in the concepts of child development, the process of socialization, gender roles and practices in school, the effect of heredity, and some theories that include Piaget, Vygotsky, and Kohlberg.
The second section is called Language 1 which will also have 30 questions carrying one mark each. This section will test the candidate’s knowledge of English/Urdu learning principles, reading, and writing.
The third section is called Language 2 which will again have 30 questions carrying one mark each. This section will be almost the same as section 2 but will be more focused on the second language.
The fourth section will be on Mathematics having 30 questions carrying one mark each and testing the candidate’s knowledge in geometry, numbers, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, spatial sense, and pedagogical issues that are faced by teachers while teaching the subject.
The fifth and last section will be on Environmental Studies having 30 questions carrying one mark each testing the knowledge of candidates on topics like family, friends, food, water, shelter, and travelling along with the pedagogical issues that are faced by the teachers while teaching and the approaches to be used while teaching environmental studies.
CTET Exam Pattern Paper 2 (Class 5 to 8)
Paper 2 for CTET 2025 will be divided into 4 sections each meant to test the knowledge of the candidate in subjects that they must know in order to be eligible for teaching in the government schools.
The first section of the paper will be based on Child Development and Pedagogy having 30 questions each carrying one mark and will test the knowledge of candidates on topics like child development and its learning from the age of 11 to 14 along with the building of knowledge, emotional development, cognitive development, skills in problem-solving, and pedagogical concerns.

Similar to Paper 1 the second and third sections of Paper 2 will also be called Language 1 and Language 2 each having 30 questions of one mark. The questions will also be on similar topics along with comprehension and development in language.
The fourth and last section will be on Mathematics & Science or Social Studies having 60 questions carrying one mark each testing the knowledge of candidates in algebra, mensuration, natural resources, and natural phenomena along with social studies for those who chose it.
